About Our Founder
Kieren Vels is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute South Africa, and has in excess of 30 years experience in financial services and non-life insurance.
Prior to incorporating JeBIDa Wyn, Kieren spent over a decade in a large financial institution, specialising in Insurance Risk Management; he served in Group Legal, Governance and Group Risk and gained experience in Corporate Affairs, Secretariat and Captive Insurer use and management.
He incorporated and oversaw a new insurance entity within the Group, which within 5 years had assets in excess of R200million; he served as Lead Director and delivered a profitable track record over that period.
Kieren is a Member of the Institute of Directors in South Africa and specialises in Director & Officer liability, Professional Indemnity, Crime and Cyber Liability risk management and insurance.
He also spent many years as a Property Underwriter of large risks owned by corporate South Africa ranging from entities/types of risk such as Sudelectra/Xstrata (now part of Glencore), textile mills such as Daun Group and Frame, retail/office/commercial/industrial property owners, surface and underground mining, farming/including aquaculture and grain silos to large conference venues, retail shopping malls/lifestyle centres and hotel chains. In this role he trained and managed corporate surveyors and conducted surveys of large property risks himself.
Kieren is a past-President and Treasurer of the Insurance Institute of the Western Cape. He also serves as Chairman of a non-profit foundation – Andrea’s Gift Foundation, which supports the Lupus Erythematosis community in South Africa.
About our Name – Jebida Wyn
The name Jebida is of Hebrew origin and is a derivative of the better know Jebediah:- meaning beloved friend, armed with an intrinsic perceptiveness. Wyn has Gaelic/Welsh roots, meaning fair and righteous.
